Central Bucks School District Field Trip

Thanks to all of you who attended the Train the Trainers Session!

At Science Companion, we believe that teachers are the best teachers, and we recognize that school districts often struggle to come up with funding to bring in expensive outside trainers. So, we use, whenever possible, a “Train the Trainers” model, where one of our Professional Development Experts comes and works with lead teachers in the school district so they can learn how best to support their colleagues.

Here are some photos of the group that met yesterday:

Science Companion Goes on a Field Trip!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

This week, four of our intrepid authors have joined staff from The University of Chicago’s Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education (CEMSE) as they begin a major research project at Central Bucks School District in Southeastern PA.

We are very excited about this project, as it will help define how inquiry science works in the classroom, and should be helpful to educators cross country. Belinda, Colleen, and Diane, and Lance, our authors are on hand throughout the week, and will be talking to teachers about their experiences with Science Companion. Belinda will be leading a PD workshop at the Chester County Intermediate Unit about inquiry in the classroom.

Over this next week, we will be sharing what they’re learning about and what they’re teaching here on our website as well, so you can join us on our field trip. We’ll share PD workshops, updates, etc.

And like any good adventure, before all of the hard work starts, our travelers needed to have great dinner. They met Carolyn, our miracle-worker graphic designer at a PA restaurant. (We do most of our work with Carolyn via email or phone, so actually meeting in person is a real treat!)
